Teknitape was born from the company AMD Converting. A company that dealt in flexible sheet good fabrications, which is a fancy way of saying “tape”. They needed help to build a brand to sell products on their new site to get the business off to a strong start.

The Challenge

AMD Converting had the equipment and capacity to take any sort of flexible sheet good, turn it into just about any shape, and put it on a tape roll. For the 3D Printers, DIY Tinkerers, and Automotive Painters of the world, this was a godsend. But it was almost impossible to find these products without buying it in bulk.

AMD recognized the consumer demand, and decided to cater its services to the public under a new moniker. They had no previous site experience, and a painfully forgettable B2B brand. It was time to build them a new home for selling online.

THE SOLUTIONS

DESIGNING A MEMORABLE MARK

The name Teknitape was born from their offering of “Technical Tapes”. The name was short, succinct, and understandable when surveyed with consumers. The logomark that was created for them was made to represent their flagship product offering, the Kapton Dots Tape Roll. The mark was made to look technical and bold, and embraced the orange/amber color of Kapton tape.

A MOBILE FIRST EXPERIENCE

We knew that the majority of their users were purchasing through mobile devices, so we had to make sure the site not only looked great, but worked great on mobile. The site was designed around the Shopify platform with a focus on selling Teknitape’s stock products, but also encouraged consumers to contact them about custom products, which would feed business back to the parent company, AMD Converting.

BUILDING A PHOTOGRAPHY CATALOG

It's a pretty well known fact that you can’t sell a product in the ecommerce space unless you have product photos. I worked with AMD Converting to photograph a catalog of their products as well as some of their custom production capabilities on site. Now their customers can know exactly what they are buying.
