We developed a three phase roadmap of functionality to ease Crescent Electric's customers into their new ecommerce ecosystem. We started with the implementation of a simple CMS site, followed by the introduction of the product catalog and search functionality, and finally advanced features such as reorder pad management and organizational account features.
Ease of use is one of the most important metrics for repeat buyers. By offering tools that made product search, project organization, and purchasing a simple task, we helped to establish Crescent Electric as the ideal business partner for large-scale electricians.
Users had different ways to identify products in their workflow, and would search for them using the identification system they preferred. Users could also assigned custom names to products for faster identification. Our custom instance of the Hawksearch engine could index from multiple sources, and return accurate results no matter which identification method was used.
Users could select a quantity and product variant with current pricing and real-time inventory tracking, and add to their cart without ever leaving a product listing page. This reduced the number of steps for users who knew their order needs.
Users can set up their own quick-order pads with pre-defined quantities and variants to make repeat orders as fast as possible. Quick order pads can be locked by organizational rules, so lower level users can purchase, but not modify the products or quantities.
Carts can be transacted with credit cards, or charged to a specific job account to later generate an invoice. Organizational rules allow for carts using bill-to-job features to need approval from organizational managers. This gives users ultimate flexibility to purchase products for jobs in a regulated ecommerce platform.
We created a fully functional wireframe prototype to give the stakeholder team a chance to test drive our solutions and identify issues before we entered development.
